I'll be finally getting my car by the end of this week. I just saw some posts in some FB groups that Renault has removed Waze from the play store. That's quite unfortunate! Did you observe the same? Anyone tried to install Waze as a third party app, not from the store?

Waze working fine on my Symbioz. It's downloaded to my phone which is Bluetoothed to the car. Use it all the time. Best ever car mapping system for me.

Are you using it through android auto/car play? I hoped I can use it directly, without relying on them.
I thought that I'll be able to get a cheap data esim so I won't be relying on my phone for the car's internet access and I'll have Waze and music steaming apps working independently, but looks like this won't be the case.

Good question. I have Android Auto also. Not sure if one needs the other. I'll have to look into it.

I saw Waze feature heavily in the promo materials and expected to install it natively.

Got the car about 2 weeks ago, went to install some apps from the Store- really disappointed with the selection especially the lack of Waze.

However, most of the time I use apple CarPlay and had used it frequently with my last car in this way: yes it works well (via CP).

I managed to sideload it, it installed without any issues, you can login etc - everything works fine until you decide to move the car - you get the message that you cannot use the app while driving. It turned out that in order for an app to work while driving it has to be:
1. Installed from the store
2. To have 3 safety permissions enabled - users don't see them in the permissions menu, they're set automatically during installation in case the app is:
3. Whitelisted in the OpenR link config.xml.

I think it is whitelisted, but is not getting the permissions enabled due to the sideloading. Unfortunately we cannot access the OpwnR link through ADB, otherwise we could make it work in no time. Same goes with other apps like YouTube etc.

Hopefully Renault will reintroduce it. I don't think they removed it due to Waze being "slow" with some updates. I think it has something to do with the default data plan/services plan that comes with the car. Starting Waze without sharing internet connection by phone's hotspot is impossible, it gives an error asking for network connection.
